Great tasting meals are made from simple ingredients. Great tasting meals require a lot of work. Great tasting meals don’t have to cost a fortunate. All they take is a little bit of inspiration and some tasty ingredients.
This recipe didn’t start off as a gumbo, I just had an idea in my head of the flavors I wanted to create, and in the end the stars aligned to form this. So this isn’t a true gumbo, but I think it’s definitely in the ballpark. In our house, we eat rice at least a few times a week. I love how easy it is to prepare, and since we have bigger eaters in our family, it’s a cost-effective way to make our frugal meals more filling.
For this dish, we started with Rice Select Texmati® Brown Rice. An award-winning whole-grain rice.
More than 35 years ago, RiceTec introduced a rice variety called Texmati®, which is the first aromatic rice to be grown successfully in America and resembles the basmati rice grown in the Himalayas. Texmati rice stays firm and separate after cooking, and it is extraordinarily delicious.
With only the inedible husk removed, it is a good source of whole-grain dietary fiber that, as part of a total diet plan, has been shown to reduce the incidence of some forms of cancer and coronary heart disease. It also has a low glycemic index value. [as described on their website]
